Approaches to Risk Assessment and Risk Management of Nanotechnologies
The conference will focus on exploring the room for manoeuvre when action is needed but knowledge is insufficient. There is a growing production of nanoparticles for a multitude of applications. However, the lack of reliable knowledge on health and environmental risks could hamper their responsible use. In this light, politics and administration as well as industry need to take decisions e.g. on the introduction of a mandatory register or cost intensive protection measures.

The workshop will focus on risk management strategies for the use of nanomaterials from two sides. The morning session will be dedicated
to a general reflection on how to act under uncertainty. In the afternoon session concrete examples of established risks management systems (partly) adopted to nanotechnology will be presented.
