This programme action line supports the strategic orientation of the NANO Initiative. Funding is provided for instance for specialised studies, market and feasibility studies, strategic concepts, Technology Foresight, and analyses. Proposals can be submitted under calls for proposals. |

Study “Nanotechnology Accompanying Measures –
State of the Art and Implications for Austria”
The Institute of Technology Assessment accomplished the study "Nanotechnology Accompanying Measures – State of the Art and Implications for Austria" on behalf of the Austrian Federal Ministry of Traffic, Innovation and Technology.
The entire study is in German but the capter "Summary and Recommendations" is also written in English.
Abstract (in German):
Nanotechnologien sind aus zwei Gründen in Diskussion – einerseits wegen der hohen Erwartungen an dieses neue Forschungs- und Technologiefeld, andererseits ergibt sich bei einigen Anwendungen derzeit ein unklares Bild über mögliche umweltrelevante und gesundheitliche Risiken und gesellschaftliche Folgen.Diese Unklarheit ist ein Beweggrund für manche Regierung wie auch für die Europäische Kommission, proaktive Forschungs- und Begleitmaßnahmen zu initiieren und zu unterstützen. In den Kapiteln über Risikoabschätzung und -minimierung, Governance und Regulierung, schließlich über gesellschaftliche Auseinandersetzungen und Kompetenzaufbau wird auf wesentliche Elemente solcher Begleitmaßnahmen (policy measures) eingegangen.

The above study was done by the Institute of Technology Assessment.
It is complemented by the project report of "NANOgesund" called "Health risks in Nanotechnology" (also in German) done by the Karl-Fanzens-University Graz, Joanneum Research and the BioNanoNet Forschungsgesellschaft m.b.H. Head of project was Dr. Frank Sinner, Joanneum Research.
